I would definitely drain the oil and other fluids before removal.
As far as the turbo. I would get as much stuff off the engine as possible. Take pictures to remind yourself later of how things looked. I have done that in the past and it is was really helpful.
Yes, remove oil filter for clearance.
I pulled mine with the turbo attached, but it scrapes the firewall for a fair distance. I would pull it next time.
also, my truck has a slight lift and the engine crane could not lift high enough. I got it out be letting the air out of the front tires and it just cleared the rad support. But having near 1100# swinging at max extension on the crane was uncomfortable.
To put it back in I brought my tractor over...
and my brother inlaw to giude it.
Then the shop crane was able to handle it again.
Just kind of lurking here, but with all the issues getting the gunk out of the fuel line connections, why not just tape them up after you re-install? Might keep the gunk from getting in there if you need to disconnect them again.
