[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-Feb-02 AT 10:57 PM (EST)]Guess I should mention that you shouldn't put it on the cloth part of the door panel or your seats. Just so someone doesn't do it, and then blame me...

As well as give you that haze on the inside of your windshield when it starts to evaporate. Baby oil, huh? I think I'll try it. I got enough babies in the house that I should have some around here! Plus the stuff smells pretty good.

Would it be OK on my running boards?

>>Well, sounds goofy, but try baby oil.

Hmm, sounds like a plan cobraXP. With all these home recipes for car-care, I keep thinkin' Martha Stewart is going to reply. I always thought that oil rots rubber and vinyl, but if you've been doing it for a while with no trouble, then it must be o.k. My wife's Windstar smells like baby products anyway.........maybe I'll try it on that first! Thanks for the tip!!!!!

OBTW If vegetable oil comes from vegetables, and mineral oil comes from minerals...............OMG!!!Where does baby oil come from?!?

I guess?!?! Haven't ever tried that...

When I was competing in IASCA, I saw people put some of the weirdest things on there car. I think the one that got me was a guy who carried a jar of vasoline. He put it on his dash, door panels, kick panels, plastic trim on the outside, his engine, I mean everywhere there was plastic, vinyl, or rubber. I guess what got me was the first time I saw him walking around his ride with a wash cloth, toothbrush, and the biggest jar of vasoline I had ever seen. I knew I was in the wrong crowd...

I have put coconut suntan lotion on my dash, but don't recommend it in the summer... Even with the air on, windows rolled down, and driving 100mph - it will still overwhelm you. Bad idea...

Wished I had seen this message earlier today before I spent the 5.00 on Meguiarre's (sic) tire gel. More work than a spray but thought it would be nice to not have the overspray on my wheels. I like the looks of the simple green job. Probably try that next time. Live in the country so this is probably all for naught anyhow.......but looks good while setting in the shop till I drive it down the road .

I just bought some stuff called endurance for my tires. It is pretty thick stuff. If you take your time and put a little bit at a time on a rag and carefully go around the tire it gives a shine that is hard to beat. I bought it at pep boys. I have used just about every product on the market for tires, foams, gels, sprays, etc. and nothing gives a shine like this endurance. It lasts through rain for about 2 weeks and we have a lot of rain in south florida. I think this is the best product out there for tires.

TIRES: Mop & Glow works well and inexpensive

RIMS: Zephyr 40 is bar none the best aluminum polish. Short of using a three step polishing compound (jewelers rouge) process and power buffer. Zephyr 40 can be found at your larger truckstops and some boat dealers. It will keep rims looking like big deezel's. Drive a truck myself.

DASH, VINYL and RUBBER FLOOR: WD 40 .... probably the only thing it's really good for

It is also good to put on your dash, door panels, etc. Soaks in and keeps it soft. Anything good for your skin is good for those parts. Some products will just coat your dash and not let the vinyl and plastic breath. That is what makes it crack...

Just a thought for you to ponder... "

COBRAXP,

What brand of baby oil do you use and where do you get it? How often do you apply to the tires and interior plastic? Any problems? Any plusses? Thanks for your time, I really appreciate it. I am going to take the truck out of winter storage pretty soon and want to get it all shiny for the summer!!!!! And I am getting new tires this week and I want them to look good!!

I use "Looks Wet...No Mess"

I spray on a light coat.I'd rather have a satin look than the wet look.
The best feature about this product is it doesn't sling off on the side of your vehicle.

I use comet on a wet brush. I first spray the tire so it is wet and then scrub the tire with comet and a heavy duty brush. Makes them look great. I then sometimes use some spray on foam tire cleaner(whichever is on sale) if I get real ambisious. But the comet does a great job. Just make sure to wash the rims off with water so the comet isn't on the rims. Not sure if it matters but just in case?
