my factory spare tire is 2 inches shorter than the factory 20's on my truck. seems to me that this would damage the clutches in my lsd were i to use my spare. ford says it's ok. anybody got any opinions? solutions?
I always make sure I have a matching spare tire, yes it blows to spend another $300.00-400.00 on a tire that will most likely never see the road, but what cost more a driveline problem or a tire.
All I can see is me on a stretch of highway that goes 100 miles till the next service going 20 mph on a spare tire 4 sizes too small.
No thanks I'll pass on that.
It won't hurt to have an odd size with a regular rear end because you would just be spinning your spider gears while going straight which is what it does on every turn anyway. My gut feeling is that it won't hurt a LSD either because it is designed to take corners also but I would check with 1 more diff expert on that.
you should be just fine. are you sure the tires are different sizes and not just the rims? I wouldnt think that your truck would come with a spare that was a different size since these spares are supposed to be "full spares"
