Please forgive my ignorance in this matter, but I just bought an 03 7.3 not too long ago.....and I needed to put new tires on right away. But I noticed after that I didn't have a spare, so when I went back to the tire shop I asked them to give me one. He said I didn't have a "spare tire lock" and that I could only get one from the factory. Is this accurate? My spare is currently residing in the back of my truck. Thanks!
you might try the stealership parts dept.. Take along your VIN....sometimes, not always.....they may be able to come up with a replacment key from the VIN. But also be prepared for a blank look, and a shrug. At least your not on the side of the road with a flat and a good spare you cant get down. You can also unbolt the crank assembly from below the truck and many times the stealer parts department will have a set of master "keys" and they can try them and see which one fits. I think there are only about 25 different combinations.
The one for my truck was stolen from my glove box (found out when I had a flat of course) I have not replaced it yet but my uncle had to get one and he was told there are 12 different ones so he had to take the truck to them so they could match it up it was only $12.50 though so not to bad. My problem is our Ford dealer can not get them I have to take it to Indy oh well one of these days I will.
I came across this some time ago. The company was McGuard. I thought they could send a replacement spare tire key. Not sure what info they need. The number I had was 800-669-8788. Hope this helps.
you get them from the dealer. have the service manager get his set out and try the different ones until the right one fits, then take the service manager over to parts and order one. remove spare tire while you are there. There is only 20 or so it won't take long
FYI Some idiot dealers like Jomes wurst here in reno won't order you one for love or money because they think you are going to steal spare tires. in that case, since the spare tire is down, you can remove the carrier attach bolts, remove the carrier and gently beat the !@#$%^&*@#( ) out of the carrier lock until it falls off, and you will no longer need a lock key, just use the jack handle shoved back a bit farther.
No problem on not knowing ! Go to this link for more than you ever wanted to know about the spare tire lock https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...anger-mod.html . If you need more info after reading all that just holler. I just went through all this last weekend and feel your pain.
