Milky coolant

Milky coolant

What did I do? Is it as bad as I think it is? Head gasket?

what engine,year,milage,and has it ran hot. need a little more info

"89 7.3 with 182000 mi. yes it got hot. Temp read 220-230. It has overheated before but never been a big problem. I stop and wait.

could be cavatation or could be bad seals in oil cooler, or head gaskets

If the oil is ok, then my guess is that it's probably the oil cooler. I've never dealt with one, it sounds like a pain, but not nearly as bad as a head gasket. I think you need to jack the motor up a bit to get at it...

could still be cavitation need to have cooling system pressure tested

Oil cooler would be my first choice..........if the coolant is milky.

I also guess the oil cooler.

After it sits a while you should see oil on top of the coolant.

220 to 230 is not really that hot for a diesel if you were working the engine.

Are you running SCA's in the coolant?

I'll drain the radiator tomorrow and put all new in. Along with sca's. Coolant is pretty old. Hopefully that will fix it. I just got done reading on cavitation and learning about SCA's. This forum is fantastic. Thanks to all that reply to me. I really appreciate all the help.
