The hitch on my F250 has rusted into the reciever, and now i need ideas on how to get it out. Ive tried a big *** hammer, heating it, and even tying a rope to tree and giving it a few yanks to no avail. So im at a loss now. Help me guys.
PB Blaster is the cat's meow. It really likes to have hammering done as it soaks. Have you tried to drive the hitch inward? Then ****** it with the chain.
As previously mentioned, swatting the sides is crucial as the tolerance is tighter on the sides if it has any wear at all.
Also, if it don't give up the grip right away... with the chain pulled good and tight... then hammer at it and retighten chain if it moves at all.
Ive hit it in very possible direction I can. Seems to have a little bit of play side to side, but it hasnt started to come out at all. Ive hit it with tension on the chain and it didnt seem to do any good. Maybe what it needs is a bigger hammer lol
when you do get it out dip the hitch in grease my dad hasnt had a problem since then. and maybe a big sledge hammer? ( joef350 has quite the assortment might ask him lol)
Can you hammer from the inside to knock it out? Very few things will equal the force of a heavy hammer. I would soak it, then heat it (watch out for the tank), then soak it, hammer in on it, then out. Of course only heat the outside of the hitch to expand the outside, don't heat the inner parts.
Had this happen with my dad's GMC. As others said, hammer sideways to try and crack the tight fit of the rust.
We tied it to a tree with a chain and pulled constant tention while I hammered the insert up and done. Blow by blow slowly came out. Doesn't fit so tight anymore but it still works.
that was the only rust on my truck do to multbe boat luach over the year i spary it down and hit it with a 25 pound seldge hammer one of my bigger ones lol
