2004 5.4L 3v Ignition Problems

2004 5.4L 3v Ignition Problems
I am having a problem where my truck will lose total power intermittantly that will last for a second and then its back. Its like the truck surges. No warning lights come on and when I take to the dealer nothing shows up.
I first thought it was the rebuilt tranny I had put in last year but the dealer says not. This occurances of the problem is random I don't have a clue. A friend suggested that it mite be a short or an Ignition coil that is flaky.
Any ideas?
