1988 7.3L sick at the shop

Went to start my truck last thursday and the ignition switch broke. Pulled it to ford dealer on sat. Also having them check my cold starting problem. I would work on it myself but don't have time and it's to damn cold. Let you guys know what happens. i don't like a truck that don't start. If sombody cant figure it out i'm going back to gas.

Hard starting in cold weather is a very common with the IDI's...the boys at Ford will have it fixed in no time at all....the sad part will be the bill. The sadder part is, you could have done all the work your self....in warmer weather or a heated garage, of course.

Said they found 2 bad glow plugs. I had them change all 8. Also 5 out of 8 injectors had leaking 0 rings. I also had all 8 of them changed out. Yes the bill is not going to be pretty. There goes the money from selling my calves. But at least my truck will start. They were going to leave it out overnight and see how it starts this morning. It was -10F last night and i havent called them yet going too in a little bit.

Ok so i'm back to loving my IDI again. Picked it up on friday from the shop and it starts great. Said i should get new batteries though. I put new batteries in in august but i bought chepies so that's the last time i do that. It warmed up some here so will probably put in this week. I have to finish getting my outdoor boiler hooked up this week too. to much to do. And yes the bill was rather on the high side. Need to take the truck back though because the cruise no longer works. Keep them IDI's rolling!!!

As a horseshoer and someone that definitely knows I'm better off leaving the doohickeys under the hood thingy alone, I have to say that other fella was right; you really CAN do all that stuff yourself.
I haven't managed to F%^& mine up yet. (I don't "do" wiring) Next project is swapping out the tranny, clutch, and flywheel; tranny seal crapped out and my trans. is cooked. Fortunately, I have a coupla buddies to help who both have shops. I need to do the lift pump, too.

Exclamation

I don't care how old the thread is. I get a lot from reading reports of other people's experiences.
