Initially i was starting to get some puffs of smoke and it was white at idle but when I gave it some gas, it turned black pretty bad. Wasn't buring oil too bad but was burning a little. So i thought of pulling the turbo due to egr cooler is right under it. Either or one has failed, and i already replaced the egr cooler 20000 miles ago. Downpipe has some massive oil sludge. So since my turbo is out now should i go head and delete my egr cooler? It is off warranty and what would be the best bet to go for the delete or bypass? Well tell me if my prognosis is correct? Sorry for the picture size, im computer dumb and really dont know how to shrink em.
There are so many companieS that have the egr delete. The only advice I give you is when you select the one you want, make sure the new up-pipe (if it comes with one) does not have the flex section unless you are using a sneaky pipe (retains the egr cooler but blocks exhaust flow). The flex section will break without the rigidity of the cooler. I used a kit from FirstCoastDieselPerformance.com
I am ecstatic with the results. Hindsight....if I had a confirmed good egr cooler (didnt know until disassembly, but was on a tight timeframe) I would have taken the up-pipe, welded the port feeding the cooler with a SS plug....cleaned the ***** out of the intake (oily from CCV) and reassembled.
I am still happy with the FCDP quality I received. Darn near the same price of all the kits but you GET SOOOO MUCH MORE!!!!!
You have an 04 truck, so depending on the production date it could have an 03 or an 04 motor in it which will have different turbo's which also mount differently. Check the production date of the truck on the door tag or get the VIN# before purchasing from ebay or going to the dealer. Another clue would be if it has the IPC sensor in the passenger side front of the valve cover. That's an 04 model.
BOBDG, FYI you have a early build turbo, because you have the wrap around intake manifold. Ebay is a good place to check but you can also get just the center housing which will be cheaper.
Thanks guys, Jboczar; center housing and just rebuild the turbo? I would definately do that. Hence, the price lol. Which we all don't want to spend extra money if we dont have to. I'll take a look at that and see where my best options are..
Sorry stonezon, From all these guys expert opinions, and what i have read. Gentlemen correct me if im wrong. Deleting the egr will stop the exhaust going thru your intake. Which means you will have clean air going thru your engine which will stop clogging your intake, turbo, sensors ect.. Also increases power by a margin and from what i have read and a possiblility of gas milege increase? As to that will eliminate problems that could possibly could happen like egr cooler failure, which will blow coolant into your engine.

3C3Z-9G489-BARM Center Housing - Bolted w/o Clamp Plate) 2003 F-Super Duty/Excursion
Should be one of these two center housings depending on how the turbo is bolted together. Those are ford part numbers. The center housing is the guts, bearings, etc. You can just clean the outside housing pieces and reuse the vgt actuator, the unison ring, and the blades. Thats the way ford has us do them, however if the blades scored either outer housing, you have to replace the whole turbo otherwise you might get some strange boost noises.
