Engine Compatibility Info - Where?
84 F250 4x4 w/460 C6 Trans - No need to explain here if someone can tell me where I can find info on engine compatibility. What engines will swap or won't swap w/o this change or that..ect. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This 460 has to go before my bank account does. Thx!

The small block Windsor engines, and the 240, and 300 6 have the same bolt pattern, and it's a different bolt pattern than the big block 385 Series engines(370 429 460). The 351M and 400 have the same bolt pattern as the 460, so one of those would be a good swap(easy as a swap gets anyway). If you wanted a 300 6, 302, or 351W you would probably need a different transmission with the Windsor bolt pattern, or maybe there is an adaptor you can buy.
Honestly I don't think any engine will get that much better gas mileage than the 460 you got. If I were you I'd check everything to make sure the 460 is at top efficiency, and change my driving habbits. If the 460 needs rebuilt or something, and you don't mind having less power than you might want to look into the 351M and the 400. If you get lucky you might get 1-3 MPG extra over the 460.

351m and 400s were not exactly gas mileage champs. Unless you throw a rebuild into one to fix the low compression and cam timing, along with a few other things, you will just burn the same gas for less power. So there you have the cost of a rebuilt engine, now hooked up to the same 3 speed, non-lockup trans, with the same axle ratio.
Are you looking to save gas, or save money? At this point, you can save a little of one, but only spend more of the other.
Hey, check your build date. If it's August '84 or later, you can go C4C and get a Focus for gas mileage.....
It's 25 years old. It's a 3/4 ton PU. It is 4x4. It has the aerodynamics of a barn door. It can't help but suck gas regardless of what's under the hood.....

ask around in that thread, im sure some of them have converted over from a gas to a diesel engine.
someone should surly be able to tell you all of what you will need to get your job done.

Cooling.
Exhaust.
Fuel system, tank replacement or clean out, new set of lines and filters.
Accessories like ps, alternator, AC (you do have AC...)
Linkages.
Transmission.
DS issues
Gearing maybe
Front springs maybe.
And the parting shot, how much fuel does a 6.9 use? I don't hear any fantastic numbers, mostly teens. Do the math, it's a lot of driving to recover any part of the costs here.
