Yep, my 1981 has single stage paint, so not a problem with the silicone. The fading on mine is due to the old fashioned sunshine and 29+ years
Clear coat started around circa 1985, if I recall correctly, but trucks might have been clear coated since new too that was originally single stage.
Why I said not to get the silicone lubricant on the paint in my previous post. (Unless you know it's single stage paint. However it's great for preserving rubber seals. They will last at least 3 times longer than leaving them dry.
Didn't the fading problem continue on Ford trucks in the early 90's?My dad said they used to bring lots of them in for repaints when he worked at the local Ford dealership.
I agree with everyone else,use a 92-93 cargo lamp gasket.It's alot thicker than the older ones.
