Got a '82 F250 and I need the gasket that goes under the cargo light. This is the light on the back of the cab facing towards the bed. I've found cargo light replacements (NPD and others), but they include the light, gasket and wires for the tune of $140.00. All I need is the gasket. Any pointers as to where I can get one?

Welcome to FTE
Sadly, I remember this jazz...
The reason you cannot get the gasket separately is, Ford said you had to buy the entire cargo lamp just for that fracatta mounting gasket.
E9TZ15550A .. Cargo Lamp / Obsolete / This is the cargo lamp & gasket only, not the complete installation kit.
Fits: 1980/93 F100/350 & F(Super Duty).
The last MSRP for this part was $69.91 (dealer net cost was $46.84)...and if you're interested, there are 9 dealers that still have it in stock.
Just go to a wrecking yard and get a gasket off a 1992 or 1993 truck.
That is what I did.
If you use silicone lubricant on the seal, it will keep it from deteriorating. Silicone lubricant is a rubber protectant. It will let the rubber last at least twice as long. It is also recommended in the owners manual.

81-F-150-Explorer, what brand of silicone lubricant do you personally use? Your truck seems to be in GREAT shape for its age. Do you garage your truck or does it stay outdoors all the time?

I have a can of 3-in-one brand silicone lubricant right now.
But I've also used Prestone, and even Ford Brand.
Thanks for the compliment, It is parked outdoors, but it gets washed every week, and waxed every six months. And has been since new. I used Ford Car wash. Ford Wax polishes and Ford protectant for the first 20 years as well, but I moved to Mothers Carnuba Wax, and car wash concentrate. I also power wash and spray wax the engine at least once a year.
It does need paint though. The hood and roof have faded at least 3 shades, and when I need to do touch up, the original color doesn't match anymore. too dark, etc... That and the Explorer Stripes show minor cracking. Will probably repaint it and fix minor dents when the economy improves.
Numbers,
I didn't know that about the wax, nor the silicone effecting coatings. My ol' truck looks like it got dipped in that cr@p.
I guess caution is the word, if it ain't good enough for *****, then don't plaster it on your truck. Better yet, the former and the latter look perfect au natural.
