I use a 6" strap with screw type clevises for recovery, i would take a few pictures of my towpoints but my truck isnt home right now. My strap was bought from www.thestrapguy.com and he is really good about fixing a strap for you if its starting to fray. Just like 75f350 said I used to use a 3" strap and it held up for 2 years then the truck got bigger and the strap only lasted about 4 more pulls.

While I have done it in a pinch, I would not recommend using a TOW strap for vehicle recovery. There is a difference, since tow straps are generally rigid and tend to snap when you exert a large force upon it.....tow straps/ropes should be used for towing and recovery straps should be for recovering stuck vehicles...its a safety thing...the best recovery straps are similar to huge rubber/elastic bands that stretch, making snatching a stuck vehicle easier and less dangerous...just my 2cents tho....

I should have specified that I use a 2" recovery strap, not a rigid strap

Using just the hitch pin is pretty debatable in itself.

I have no opinion except to the fact that unless it's a straight pull, you'll fray the recovery strap on the edges of the hitch receiver.

In a bind I'll do so, but with their strap. But if I can loop it over the hitch tubing (without damaging the bumper cover when applying upward force) then I'd go that route instead.

It's always a gamble when you're using something the way it's not intended.

I have seen people do this before, and it required a hammer to get the pin back out because it bent, alot..

I also use 6 inch wide recovery staps.. i have a pintle hook in the rear, and a homemade insert in the front. i have been known to get alittle crazy pullin people out..
i have had to take 20 foot runs at the end of 50 ft of strap.. but thats when i was pullin out this rig in a different situation.

Ended up pullin the bronco out first, than the 2.5 ton backwards.

I got my Closed D hook up today, the receiver is a solid pc. The pintle was more than I could spend at the time. I am ready to go, I think wife and kids are going for there first mud bog. I hope she enjoys it

Was watching ice road truckers. A truck was in the ditch... fully loaded over 100k lbs up to the top of the frame in snow and this big ol loader jerked him out with a yellow strap. it wouldn't budge but the gave it some slack and gunned it a few times hard enough to make that rig jump when the strap was done stretching and shortened itself back up.
I've never used one before but now I'm a believer.
