You should learn from my mistake....
I spent the last couple of days - evenings studying the basics of automatic transmissions, and that small info I found about the torqueshift transmission. My readings lead me to discover what happened to my transmission, why did I burn the direct clutch in it, why I'm facing to rebuild a torqueshift. It was clearly my own fault, my mistakes and nobody else's. What did I do wrong?
I ran the hottest programs from the 2 biggest programmers ( Innovative and Spartan) as a Daily Driver tune. They clearly post that the Xtreme Race and the Ultra Competition tune is only for drag race or sled-pull competitions. The shifting strategy was made for wide open throttle take offs, such as 1/4 mile, etc. Clearly every day traffic doesn't fit in to that. Several times, when I couldn't -obviously- do a full throttle shifting all the way up, it did kick into 5th gear so hard, that it was scary. Several times I felt that the shifting isn't working the way that it would be "comfortable" in the traffic, but I just stepped on the gas, and I was happy. At those times I didn't know how the automatic works, but still knew that it can't be too "healthy" for it. Now that I know and understand how the gear-set works and how the clutches engage and disengage to let you use the optimal gear of the tranny, I just can imagine what happened inside at those "shiftings".
Even though the warning from the programmers was clear not to use the tunes on the street, I did. They don't give you that warning, because they're afraid that you won't use the power wisely, or it is too much power for an 8k pound truck on the streets and you might gonna scare other drivers. They wrote the program for racing, and they also know that the streets NEVER give you the opportunity to use them as they supposed to be used.
I know that not many of us uses the XtremRace or UltraCompetition tunes like a DD, but whoever reads this, please pass out to your truck buddies- even if they're not FTE members
- that the smart person learns from others mistakes. My mistake cost me $1500 in parts - and it's not final yet, and an other $600 for an other mistake - AAMCO - not to mention the labor I'm going to put into rebuild my transmission. STAY AWAY from the clearly WROTE FOR RACING tunes on the streets, or you could end up like me - and there is nobody to point your finger at, but yourself.
I only ask this because I really dont remember ever reading from Eric that the xtreme street was only to be used for racing, and I think I remeber him telling me that several people use it as a DD cause it would yeild the best fuel mileage if you could resist the go pedal. I think I am gonna shoot Eric an email just to ask.
That is also one of the main reasons I dont run the xtreme tune. I really want to upgrade to a BD trans. but for right now mine is working well and I would rater put the money into an EGR delete and ARP studs.
Again sorry about the tranny and thanks for sharing your story. Have you looked into a upgraded tranny and installing it yourself. It may be more cost effective in the long run.

I'm talking about specifically the XtremeRACE and the Ultra Comp tunes.
Every other tune - even the Xtreme Street or the Hybrid Race, what only one step down - way different in power and shifting then these 2 beasts.
Don't take me wrong, I love them, absolutely great programs, but I personally won't run'em anymore as a DD in traffic.
I ordered the upgraded rebuild kit from Suncoast, so I should have a stronger tranny in the end.
I went over and read your other post afterreplying to this thread. I didnt think thatr the xtreme street came with a warning..atleast one I dodnt remeber reading.
Anyrate, take your time, and remeber if you wipe something down make sure to use lint free towels. When I rebuild trannies I always use those kimberly clark shop towels. The blue scott ones work good too. Dont use the red shop towels that come in the bag they have tons of lint on them.
Good luck,
Sarge

I have a day off tomorrow, I have all kinds of projects around the house, but I'll try to drop the transmission before the end of the day.
Thanks for everybody's support!
