OK, I am looking at putting in a HID kit for both my headlights as well as fog lights, but I am unsure about the process.
The fog lights are outright dim and I am very disappointed by this performance. I have replaced the headlights with silverstars and I am going to up that with the 2007SU's for added umph. I love my wife's HID's in her Murano and I got them put into her new Mustang. I have some questions.
1. Would the insulation void my factory warranty?
2. How involved is the insulation? I have seen videos, but that can be misleading.
3. Are the fogs just plug and play?
1. no
2. very simply, everything is plug and play
3. see #2
installation is basicall plugging the ballast to your factory plug, other wires go the HID. and you may have one wire that goes to power on your battery if its needed. o and a ground.
I think trucks with HID's look awesome. However just make sure you get the angle right because I have been blinded by some d-bag who didn't take the time to angle them down. That being said I have switched out my heads and fogs in my car with HID's and they are awesome.
hid4u--- That is the store I buy mine from, I have always had good luck with him and he ships them really fast and the quality of the kits is awesome.
you will never the get the performance like an HID out of a regular Halogen or xenon type bulb. just wont happen. you may get the look but not the light
I'm sure I've missed a thread all about this somewhere along the line but I've never looked into this too much. What is the difference with white/blue/purple? Is it personal preference or some better in certain applications?
Looks like there is 5000 to 12000k, what are you guys using in your trucks? I'm interested in the driving and fog lights, maybe the fog lights wouldn't be so useless then.
The colour/Temp of the output depends on the number. The higher the number the less lumen output and the more purple the light gets. If i remember correctly most halogen lights are in the 4-5k range and if you go for a 6k HID you will get a good combo of lumen output and colour. If you are after the stock look but more light then go for a 4-5k HID.
the lower the k, the more white light you will see one the road. the higher the k and you start getting into the blues and purples.
I run 10k in my truck, it has that cool blue look to it but still has plenty of light. usually the 8 or 10k is a good choice, they are pretty close to the same. my mom runs 10k in her headlights and 8k in her foglights and the 8s are just a little whiter. but if you want the cool look of the exotic colors then you get go from 12k (slightly purple) up to 30k (pink). and there are money different color choices in between. best all around is still an 8 or 10k though
I didn't particularly like the silverstar bulbs as they seem to burn out quickly and the color had yellowed significantly over the 9 months i had them in.....
While i understand you'll never get the full amount of light without switching to hid's.....the philips bulbs are much cheaper (70 bucks for the set of 4 at bulbs.com)....and no issues of melting assemblies as i've heard about with those that have switched to hid's....
