I wonder how much longer it's going to take Ford to start fitting the HID lights to the f150's Hopefully it's before the end of this model so that i can retrofit them to mine.

I looked high and low at every store i could find on a 600 mile trip across two states......no one carried the phillips ones for our trucks in stock, so i ended up ordering them from bulbs.com and had them in two days....

The HID/projectors that come with factory cars are a lot better than the after market systems you install your self. The type i had on my old car would auto level under hard brakeing and accleration or if i was going up or down a hill and would have a lot better beam pattern than any after market system i have seen.

well yeah, thats just the projectors themselves working with the car. as far as the lighting goes, the factory hids arent a very high k rating. usually around the 3-5k range. personnally i think the 8-10ks look better and perform better. but yes your right about the projector lenses. my mom has them on her 300c but they dont move. and she has the 10k hids installed.

I personally hate the high temperature HIDs (K stands for kelvins - a measure of temperature) 4-5k best mimics the light the sun puts out, and is far less harsh on other drivers - especially if you don't have projectors. The white-er light will also make things in the road show up better.
Speaking of projectors - if your car doesn't have the, you should not do an HID conversion unless you plan on installing some projectors. The reflectors for the factory halogen bulbs are no good for the much smaller emitting area of HIDs.

You can see where the problem is with fitting HID's into normal reflector from the picture above where the light is diffused all over the place instead of like a projector where it projects the light to the proper area to be lit. Our range rover has 6k HIDs from the factory and they are the same as my old car. BMW, MERC, Porsche, Audi, Jag and many higher end cars all use the same system. Anymore than that and your Lumen output is greatly reduced and you gain nothing but a purple/pink hue. Im not 100% sure but aint anything above 6k illegal in most states anyway?
Here's a pic showing how much cleaner and focused the projector makes the beam.

i know how the the focused beam is, my mom has projectors and my brother has the projectors like the one above in his 05 f150. here in texas, i think you can go as far as 12k before it because "offroad use only" or illegal. i have been pulled over for my fog lights being to bright in town, but they seen where i live and let it go, just had to kill the fog lights while i was in pasadena. i have a buddy that runs around with exotic blue in his 95 lexus. those are illegal but he hasnt got caught yet.
