erratic gauges
94 E150, 4.9 inline six. Lately my dummy oil gauge has been slowly climbing until it is pretty well pegged out at H. My temp gauge seems like it's creeping a bit higher than it has always run, but not near to the H. Voltmeter stays about in the middle, but when I hit the power window switch I see a more pronounced drop than I did before. If I turn the AC on, it makes the Oil and Temp gauges jump higher instantly and if I turn the AC off, they drop instantly. I know running with the AC will increase the operating temp, but not instantly. And I don't know why it would affect the dummy oil gauge. Any ideas? I just put a new alternator in...

It was a loose ground... The ground wire that goes from the negative battery cable to the body. The connection was tight at both bolts, but when I wiggled it the wire came out of the crimp fitting. Replaced fitting, snugged up, and gauges are back to normal. It's nice when the fix is easy and free.
