Photobucket images

I can't seem to see images in threads that are being hosted by Photobucket. I'm able to see them if the images are parked on the FTE system, or private websites. I am having this trouble on all of the boards I go to. I try to copy and paste the URL of the images in the navigation bar and the image still doesn't come up. I've had this problem some time back but it seemed to work once I copied and pasted the URL in the navigation bar and had the image come up in it's own window, then when I went back to the post the image would appear.

When I go directly to the Photobucket site I get a dead site. I have had this trouble for a while. I've checked posts that were made before and after I had the problems and the respondents to the posts acknowledge the pictures posted but I still can't see them. So unless Photobucket is having intermittent problems it must be something with my system. I have two computers, one at work that is mine and doesn't have any company filters because, I am the company, and the one at home. I've noticed this on the home machine, not sure about the one at work.

My home computer died on me week before last so I had to get it reformatted and have Widows XP reinstalled. I've gone through my internet "Tools/Internet Options " to make sure it wasn't blocking out images and everything seems to be set OK. I am running Norton (I know a PIA but I have another year on the subscription) and I'm thinking it could be Norton but I can't seem to find any place to adjust it to allow or disallow images.

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Addendum: I'm also having trouble loading FTE pages, it's slow as heck. I have to keep refreshing the page to get them to load.

Everything has slowed down here as well. I can still see pics, though. My guess is the background scanning that is constantly happening with Firefox, Norton, and whatever other phishing scans that are going on, while the page loads. Every update these programs add, is more memory my computer has to keep, and is more "stuff" my computer has to sort through in order to find what it wants. I think a reformat is in store.

It must have been a problem with Photobucket. I just checked the FTE post that I couldn't see the Photobucket image and now I can see the images. The FTE site also seems to be loading faster. Maybe I turned something off that could only take effect after I rebooted my computer. I just don't know.

I think its your computer I can't see pictures when I'm on my computer at work however, when I get home I can see them all. I know my work computer blocks a lot of things especially programs running in the back ground of another program I guess it see it as phsing security thing. On Alcaeus thread "The Search is Over" the only thing I see are boxes with red "Xs".

Somewhere within windows there is a way to ajust the timeout setting for loading pages - if it is set to low you end up with a lot of red x's
I've been looking for it since BobJ started this as I've been getting a lot of red x's - I had always thought that with an ex redhead wife I should have paid my dues and be rid of red x's forever.

I've noticed this problem on my shop computer too. I didn't have this problem before. I read somewhere on the net that PhotoBucket runs into band width problem every so often, maybe that's the problem. I wouldn't be surprise is some IT guy over there "improved" their system. The IT guys always seem to be improving the sites, that has been evident on the 'Bay and here all of the time whenever they get all screwed up. I guess they're like the government, if they aren't sticking their fingers into something and screwing it up they afraid people might notice we don't need them all that much.

The geeks never go off their servers unless they are using linix.
They don't know the havoc the reek on the WWInternet - nor do they care.

Oh the time out is an IE thing - it's set at one minute - geek part - expressed as 60000 in the setting - if found it can be set up to 120000 or two minutes - geek part - if you want to go higher you have to do it somewhere else

I think I might have fixed the problem, by accident.

In "Tools" I clicked on "Compatibility View Settings". When the window popped up I entered "Photobucket.com" in the window and then clicked on "Add". It seemed to let me see the Photobucket images and I was even able to go to the Photobucket website, which I couldn't bring up before.

Maybe this will work. If not, I'm going to blow a fuse!

OK,OK, I think I might have cured my problem, maybe. I turned off my Norton and installed Avast and everything seems to working. I checked some of the posts I couldn't see the Photobucket images and now they're showing up. I am also able to go to the Photobucket web site without a problem. FTE pages even seem to load a lot faster. I've heard so much bad stuff about Norton I wouldn't be real surprised if it was causing all of my troubles.

Ignore the last post, I still had the problem after I post it.

Now, I think I might have actually found the problem. I know it wasn't my internet connection because I sit my kids laptop right next to my computer and I was able to see the images on his laptop that were on the same sites I couldn't see them on my computer. He was able to go right to the Photobucket site, I couldn't. I kept getting an error message about not have a connection. All I could see of the posted images were that lousy little box with the red X.

I searched the internet with every phrase I could think of, "can't see photobucket images", "photobucket problems" and so on. I found a lot of advice from cleaning my cache files to turning off my firewall to test to see if it was blocking the images to making a new user profile and deleting the old one (In the process wiping out my bookmarks and address book ). Nothing worked. Tonight I decided to copy the error message I got when I tried to access the Photobucket page. I Googled the entire message and added Photobucket and got an infinite number of pages again. I was going through them all and found a computer geek site that suggested I read this Microsoft page:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956196

I followed all the suggestions and nothing helped. When I got to Method 6 I did everything it said and didn't get the indication that anything was wrong but then I reread the sentence, "If no exclamation mark icons appear, and the latest drivers are installed,". I right clicked on the driver icon that appeared in the window and clicked on "Update Driver". I waited a few seconds and the download window started. After the update was finished I tried to the Photobucket site and it opened, I then went to a couple of the post I couldn't open images on and the pages loaded with the images.

This a rather long post I know but maybe it'll help some one else. If some one has the same problem they should go the to the link I listed above and read through it. What a pain, all this trouble because of a buried corrupted file. Good thing I'm such an IT pro, yeah right, I just kind of stumbled on it. Hopefully this will be the final cure.
