Buddy just called from the mountains- for the weekend. One of his buddies there w/ 05 PSD is broke, said he jammed on the brakes on the PA turpike on his way there and the truck quit on him. No CEL or anything, had towed the rest of the way there and is now trying to diagnose. Cranks w/ no start. I told him check fuel bowl, has fuel, is checking oil bowl now. I told him may be electrical, harness somewhere or poss. HPOP but the wierd part that bothers me is it happened after jamming brakes. Don't make sense, does it? Good thing is 58k so I told him he might just have to have it towed to Ford and let them fix it. Any ideas? TIA EDIT: BTW he has Ford service it so has right filters
When he gets back, he went to get a new FF since the one in the bowl seemed dirty. Then he's going to check the oil bowl when he has that buttoned up. I'm having a brain fart, ICP pigtail and which other?
PCM and FICM harnesses seem OK. He ( owner) won't be back for awhile w/ FF, have him ( my buddy) checking ICP and IPR pigtails if he can get to them. Buddy is already cussing Ford- he has 07 Cummins, no room under here he says! Yeah I know...No recent work that he knows of.
He can't get his big meathooks on the pigtail to unplug it, he can just barely touch it. Still waiting on FF to get there. Seems likely HPOP issue, no? Just that it quit after jamming on brakes is puzzling me. If it just quit while driving down the road, I'd be OK with the diag. so far. If FF doesn't solve it he'll have it towed to Ford dealer in Berwick.
It does seem strange on the timing coinciding w/ the braking, but that can put torque forces on the engine.
It does sound like the HPO system (especially since it is an 05). The link I provided can give you the way to check the ICP voltages. If the ICP is working, you can estimate the pressure in the HPO system that you are getting at crank.
The ICP should be very accessible on the passenger side valve cover (in front of the transmission dip stick tube. he can use a screwdriver to lift up on the locking tab and it should unplug easily.
