OK guys I finally found a supplier for dca 4 in western australia and he is just down the road from me which is handy. Its the fleetguard stuff and I got their test strips as well. The bottle on the test strips says how to do the test and how to read the chart but then it says to confirm your required units per litre and redose accordingly. What is my required units per litre? The dca 4 bottle is 1.89 lt (2 pint i think) and it says it is 20 units but has very little other info on it. Also what is the best type of coolant because we dont have cold like some of you guys so anti freeze is not a big deal compared to anti boil. I know it has to be low silicate but is there anything else I should look for.
Thats strange because the one pint bottles of Fleetguard DCA4 I use say they equal 5 units. So that would be 10 units for two pints for me. Anyway, what you need is 3.0 units of charge per gallon. Find the capacity of your cooling system. Test the coolant that is in the system. Lets say you get 2.0 units per gallon. Then you need another unit per gallon. If it was an 8 gallon system you would need to add 8.0 units.
Fuzzy1626, Your right . My eyes are obviously painted on as the bottle of dca4 I have is 2 quarts which is 1.89l. Also my conversions were up to s#%t because us gallons and imperial gallons are not the same so my figures were wrong. My new figures are as follows, 2qu = 1.89l = 1/2 usg = 4pints. 1.89 l = 20 units which follows your 5 units per pint. So your 3 units per us gallon = 0.8 units per litre which I think is the 800 ppm they talk about on the above arrowhead link (cheers plc7.3). At this stage I have 2 1.89l bottles of dca2 so I will get some standard green low silicate coolant and pre charge the system this weekend. Next time I need to change coolant I may go for the COMPLEAT 50 but money is tight this week and I want to get onto this asap. I tested the coolant that is in the truck today and it has 0 sca so obviously the po had no idea either. That is not supprising though because the only shop for F Trucks here said use valvoline gold and never test again but from what I've read that is more for the newer trucks. Anyway cheers for the quick reply guys and I'll let you know how thigs go soon.
