A friend of my Dad's is going to hook me up with a set of air horns off a full size KW so what all do I need? I know about the trumpets and air tank but is there anything else I can get off the truck that I'll need? I'll have to buy an onboard compressor but will the air lines from the KW fit or will I have to buy new lines for it? Is there anything else I should know before I pull them off the KW? Any help here will be great, I'm going to get them next weekend. I know they aren't exactly train horns but they'll still get your attention and MUCH better than that puny factory thing they call a horn.
You'll need the air valve to operate the horns. It's probably a manual valve. If your mounting the horns where a manual valve may not work, you can get an electric valve.
Unknown if the KW air lines will work or not. I went to a hardware store and bought DOT approved air lines and slip-to-gether fittings.
Check out the puma 12 volt compressors on e-bay, I have one with a 10 gal tank and it is heavy duty, I can run impact wrenches other stuff with it. Are you going to mount them on the roof? I put an electric with a horn type switch on the floor I just step on. I mounted them under the front bumper where you can't see them so with the switch on the floor no one knows who blew the horn. P.S. you can get the 1/4" pnuematic tubing and the fittings at the local auto parts or hardware store, if you plan to use plastic tubing, don't route it near the exhaust pipe as it will melt, I had to put a heat sheild on mine.
