0603 and 1211 codes

I pulled my superchip microtuner out and went for a drive pulling a 9000lb trailer, on one pretty hard pull I through a cel, when I checked it 1211 and 0603 popped up. Its the first time in 30000 miles the chip was out. Any Ideas thanks

Normal for your tuner to set both codes.

The P0603 will always be set by the tuner. It pops up every time it flashes a tune.

The P1211 is the result of using a higher horsepower tune than stock. It's triggered when oil pressure from the high pressure oil pump (HPOP) drops below a desired level. When running a higher HP tune, you need more fuel. In order to push more fuel, you need more oil volume. The stock HPOP can only pump so much oil per revolution, and just about every chip and tuner out there needs more oil than the HPOP can supply.

It doesn't hurt anything, it's just expected with the 7.3L.

The P0603 was still caused by the tuner.

If you were in a bone stock setting, and tripped the P1211 while towing hard, then you might have a weak HPOP. It happens. The best way to know for sure is to do a live scan while driving, and monitor the ICP pressure and duty cycle to see what's happening.

Did you set those codes without tunes (CEL was on) or did you just read the stored codes out of it?? I'm thinking you set the codes with the tuner and when you went back to stock, you just read the old stored codes from the PCM.

But were all codes cleared before the hard pull. Like Joe said it may have been a code that was already stored.

Clear the codes and do another hard pull and re-check for the P1211.

I have a hard pull to make this Friday.
Traveling from Munds Park, AZ to Panguich, UT.
Some LOOONNNGGG 6% grades to negotiate.
I'll clear all codes and post back the results after I arrive.
I won't be doing any live data for the trip, too much going on in the cab with the kids along for the ride this time.

If you set the CEL with stock tunes, and got only those codes, something *is* up like Curtis is saying. I don't think stock tunes call for enough oil to cause that code if the HPOP is healthy.

Dan,

You are in my neck of the woods. Did you come to AZ to get out of the heat in the Northwest. The weather in Flag has been nice, 80ish. Here in Payson it has been between 98 and 102 the last few days.

Panguich has some great fly fishing.

ok i put my truck on stock tune yesterday and with my superchip it clears all DTC's when it goes to stock and it thru 0603 and 1211. my truck takes quite a while to crank and quite often here latley it loses power and starts loaping and knocking real loud and sometimes cuts off. could it be the HPOP

I would check the UVCH to make sure it is not getting loose. And also check the harness on top of the VC.
