So I've been getting slightly annoyed with my truck's tendency to have a slightly lumpy idle, especially once warmed up. I came across a thread on here the other day talking about pretty much the exact same issue, so I went and got the IPR o-ring kit from the International shop.
Today was the day.... hot as crap, horribly humid, but it wasn't going to rain... so... I pulled the turbo, and took the IPR out. I wanted to put on my Wicked Wheel anyway, and it gave me plenty of room to boot. I didn't even use the new o-rings. Everything was looking great, so I scrubbed it all up, put in the WW, and lost another 3.5lbs of water weight putting it all back together. Yippee...
Now, she idles great!! What's the point, you ask? Somehow, when swapping out my OEM HPOP for the Adrenaline, I got something in the IPR. Something tiny... miniscule perhaps. But enough to cause an annoyance. Pulled it, cleaned it, drained the HPOP reservoir, and all is butter smooth. Emailed this info to Bob at Dieselsite. Turns out, I'm not so smart (save it ya schmucks!!). He does this and had great details that I was oblivious to.
Bob once again took the time to educate me about the IPR, and told me that he is working on a document for cleaning and/or rebuilding the IPR. When it will be up I don't know, but I've bought from Bob and will again because of the excellent customer service, even long after a purchase.
my truck seems to have a bump(rough spot) when idle. have asked a couple times on here with no real answer. but willing to try anything. how hard was it to pull and clean?
Not bad with the turbo out... I couldn't say with the IC pipes, etc. still in the way. I did find that a Craftsman 1-1/8" 1/2"-drive deep socket IS DEEP ENOUGH to do the job. I had an extension in it, and it still fit.
I was originally going to rebuild the turbo, but decided just to put on the WW, and with all that stuff out of the way, it just made sense to mess with the IPR. If all I had to do was the IPR, I don't think I'd pull the turbo. Those clamps are a pain!!
I don't plan on pulling my turbo for my IPR, but the times I've had a turbo off, I never thought about the IPR. Just something to file away in the back of my mind for future reference. If I was doing both, I would have probably done the IPR first, then pulled the turbo afterward.
