The 6.4 and the V-10 both get the same MPG on average....11.6 MPG. True about not buying fuel while it was in the shop....However on the way home from the dealer, I did stop to top off with diesel on the f-550. That was a quick $138 spent.

take it easy on use v 10 folks. while camping in pigeon forge tn last month, there was this "nice" looking 2005 EX that came into the campground. i could hear the diesel when he fire up. as he came by my site...... "O crap" was he smoking. i had the same thing happen in a 6.0 psd ambulance .... blown turbo. once he got set in his site, he said that the turbo had blown about 100 miles from pigeon forge and he limped into the campground. i looked back at my ole reliable 2001 v10 EX and patted her on the hood.

It will break you buying gas, spit it's sparkplugs all over the highway, amd loose all it's power at altitude.

Seriously, sorry to hear about your problem. Can I guess HPOP? Or does the 6.4 use something else? (Not real familiar with the 6.4).

took me a minute to realize you were joking!
You sound just like a PSD guy.
I had to read your sig to see that you weren't.

I took some photos on are last trip to the mountains so I can respond to the ones that say a V10 can't pull big loads and can't pull in the altitudes.

The load

The pass

We have to use the walk up counter the trailer just won't fit under there overhang

The rig scales in right around 24K with the 50 gal aux and main tank full and a half a tank of water. When we pull the boat up into the mountains we cut back on the water until we get there and try and use up the aux tank of fuel before climbing the hill.

The trailer averages 15.5 to 16K depending on how much water is on board, it has a 100 gal fresh water tank. We live in it most of the year so it's loaded on the heavy side most of the time. This is our 4th HH trailer we bought the first on in 1987, we ordered this one in Nov 02 and plan on keeping it for 10 more years before we buy another one. We ordered this one with HD brakes (12 1/4 X 3 3/8 shoes) but the new ones you can get disk brakes that are even better. The difference between standard and HD brakes is I can hit the controller and stop the truck if needed. I also plan on getting another 4 or 5 years out of our 9 year old V10 .

With our 5 speed trans and the 3 valve V10 your truck would pull a trailer our size and bigger without any problems. The one thing I would like is a 5 speed transmission but out truck is set up just the way we want so I well have to wait.
