Went to change my fuel filter, pulled out the old one, drained the fuel bowl, filled the bowl half way with sea foam and it turned brown and cloudy immediately.
Is there a bunch of crap in the bottom of my fuel bowl I can't see? How do I get to the bottom to clean it with the plate in the way? Or how do I take the plate out?
Don't want to put the new filter in with it looking that dirty. Any suggestions?
Only an hour or so of daylight left and up at 5am tomorrow... Please help!
It's really simple: Unscrew the stand pipe "LEFT HAND THREADS" use a crows foot if you have one, 7/8" comes to mind. Disconnect the wire to the heater element and remove it from the bowl. Open the drain valve and flush out the crap.
That's what I ended up doing last night... Couldn't find a wrench that would work to take that part out and it was getting dark.
Next filter change I'll be sure to take that out and clean it really good.
So I've heard of the heater plate malfunctioning and making the truck die. Also heard of people just taking it out completely... anyone know about this?

I took out completely the heater plate, and no problem at all, and its VERY EASY to clean the cannister every filter change. the people here say that you only need the fuel heater if you live in the ARTIC.

That's good then... it doesn't even get below 25*F here...
