What's the best way to clean the fuel filter bowl? -As I changed my fuel filter tonight I noticed a bunch of (what appeared to be) small ***** of dirt, or something of that resemblence on the bottom of the bowl. I was doing this in the dark, so I kind of wanted to get er done quick. So i just changed the filter as normal. I recently acquired this truck, and most everything's documented, except for the fuel filter.
So can I just vacuum the stuff out, or do I need to pull the whole assembly? Thanks
I cleaned my fuel filter bowl with clean diesel and sucked it out with air blow gun that has a suction hose. You may have to remove the fuel heater element to clean underneath it. Have not changed the filter since this was done to see if anything has reappeared. Good luck!
I fear I know exactly what your seeing in there dude LOL. I have unfortunately had the same things in mine here lately too. Mine was small rocks... Yeap rocks, know darn well to that it has come from the 2.00+ diesel we are buying, really makes me mad to just think about it.
If you have a good shop vac, remove the filter in it and suck the stuff out of the assembly. May have to fill the assembly a couple times to get all the trash out, but with the long slim nozzle you can suck all the trash out.
Then on the drivers side of the assembly you will see the FPR, under that is a rock catcher also, at least on my 95 MY there is. Its a small round black plastic container. Remove this also and dump out it too. It will most likely have the rocks in it also. Let us know how things work out for you on this...
I turned the key on to fill the filter bowl 1/4, then used a turkey baster to blast the sediment loose (looked like sand.) Next, I opened the drain and turned the key back on to flush it good. This cleaned it pretty good.
