Identify this Spray In Bed Liner ...

Trying to ID what type of spray-in bedliner has been applied in my '06 F-250.

Why? 'Cause I'd like to take it and have the bottom of the tailgate sprayed all the way down to below the tailgate drainage holes; and, likewise on the bed apron adjacent to it. This area has got all chewed up from rocks, etc and tha paint has flaked off all around the drainage holes. Rust will take over soon if I don't do something about it!

The liner seams "hard" like a Line-X ... but is chalky and sort-of has the appearance of a Rhino. Here are some "clickable" pics ...

Hard to say, but I have a suggestion.

The bedliner has probably faded and it's not going to match anything that's new. So, take a look at LINE-X ReNew (which won a SEMA award last year). The ReNew process includes a new textured surface and LINE-X Xtra (prevents fading). So, get the tailgate sprayed with LINE-X with Xtra and get ReNew on the rest of the bed. It will all look the same, all will be black, and none of it will fade.

Kinda looks like my LINE-X, yours is faded more but the texture looks consistent with mine.

The texture of any high pressure bedliner product will look pretty much the same.

As far as I know, LineX dealers are "Required" to put warranty tags in them, so I doubt it's a LineX. Rhino's are nice and soft from my experience, and have a much smoother texture. I can count a dozen different types of truck bed coating places across town now, many of them using products I've never heard of that claim to be the "same as LineX". Without a label of some sort, or talking to the previous owner, I doubt you'll figure it out.

Honestly, if it's just the bottom edge by the drain holes, I'd take a wire brush to it, mask it off, clean it with laquer thinner, hit it with rustoleum rusty metal primer, then duplicolor "bed liner in a can". I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference unless you're really looking for it, and you'd save a ton of money in the process... Every small project I've taken to LineX I've gotten totally soaked on, just not worth what they get for that stuff...

That's incorrect, it's not required.

If you're comparing high pressure to low or no pressure, you will definately be able to tell the difference.

That's where the "as far as I know" part comes into play. I was told by my LineX dealer they're required, and why a dealer wouldn't put one on is beyond me, but like I said "as far as I know". Never claimed to know it all...

I've done a few projects sprayed with the duplicolor coating, it looks identical to the LineX coating, but not nearly as thick. I have LineX in 3 truck beds, a fiberglass air dam, and a ladder rack. When I did my light tower and 2 of my plow mounts in duplicolor, and threw them in the back of my truck, they looked the same as the LineX in texture and color, again, other than the thickness... My point was, in the small area he's trying to do, it probably wouldn't be noticeable...

Yea, I agree that in the area he is talking about, you don't really see it much.

Duplicolor has a couple of products. The can stuff has rubber bits in it (LINE-X does not), the Duplicolor spray can stuff does not have rubber bits in it.

Duplicolor (not the spray can):

LINE-X:

If the OP's liner is line-x I would be surprised. The main focus of the picture has the right texture but if you look back toward the bed you can see the application is not even. Whoever sprayed it did'nt do the best job and I've never seen line-x with an uneven texture.

It costs a lot but it is also the good stuff. I agree with truck-daddy on how to fix it.

Good info ... I may try the Dupli-Color product if I can figure out a way to get coverage yet not block the drainage holes.

I wonder why they don't spray down this far in the first place?

Well, on the bed side, the bedliner should cover the edge and come down about a half inch or so. The tailgate side is a big problem. Take a look at the paint in this area, it's VERY thin and in some places, you can see the metal. Also, I've been told that there is no clearcoat in this area. So, what happens is that when the bedliner installer removes the wire tape from this area, the paint comes with it. Toyota is the worst, then Ford. GM doesn't seem to have this problem.

That's exactly what I'm seeing ... the slightest of anything will take the paint off on the lowet tailgate. And if it get's crusty/muddy back there and you take the 'ole pressure washer out to clean it ... the paint will blast off right down to the metal ( a bit of expereince unfortunately). On mine, I initially used Dupli-Color touch-up primer, then touch-up paint, to cover it up (no spray can at the local parts store for Ford True Blue). It looks terrible.
