OK, so my turbo is somewhat junk, possibly rebuildable. BUT, I need the truck operational by thursday before 3(when I go to work) because friday morning im on my way to the all ford at englishtown nj.
Has anyone gutted a turbo so that they could run it n/a until they replaced it. I have an old turbo that consumed a bolt or two sitting on the shelf that i could experiment on; But im concerned about the oil and such on the gutted turbo.
I also need a drivers side hpop line (leaking at crimped fitting) and a set of ic couplers, where is the best place to find a deal on these. Im still looking around so dont yell at me for not searching first then asking, Ive had a bad day.
I would just rebuild the turbo. You can get a rebuild kit for like $85. Rons turbo service on eBay would work. However shipping will suck for your time restraints. I'm guessing about $40 per item for fed ex overnight. Good luck sir
Is your exhaust wheel, shaft and housing ok? Maybe we can work something out with the parts I have laying around from my last build...I'm in PA and it would only be 2 days to Maine.
I hear Clay @ Rifraff has a really nice boot kit that will replace all 6 for a great price. I bought the CFM kit form Xtreme Diesel, they are in NJ and I got it next day UPS ground.

You have a Mustang?
It was midnight when i yanked the truck apart in the parking lot at work, all i did was pull the intake hose off and check play. Ill be in phillidephia friday, then englishtown on sat/sun. If I can rig this thing up for now I can wait on the turbo rebuild, I really hate having to order and wait for parts. Im calling around now to find a complete turbo in my area or within an hour drive.
I do not know if the exhaust wheel or housing is bad. I did not get that far. Ill go back today and probly dismantle the truck and get the turbo off it. But i still need couplers if that was one of the causes.
I would be interested to know if driving the truck n/a would hurt it any.
I have a 96 gt mustang as a daily driver.
I also have a 67 GTA mustang fastback with 390 dual quad, c6 auto.
94gt turbo
93 convert
68 mustang 4x4 on 40s
88 gt convert supercharged 5l
94 v6 supercharged

You can't run a gutted turbo since the oil seals are on the shaft so it needs to be assembled or it will just dump oil everywhere into the exahust and intake tubes.

I wasnt gonna leave it without a shaft plugging the holes. I have some very bad turbos that i was going to thread where the shaft goes and put pipe plugs to hold the oil in, but there wouldnt be any restriction for the oil feed so im not sure if id loose oil pressure from it just pumping by all the time.
I would get someone to overnight you a rebuild kit if all you need are the internals (try Ron's Turbo Service -- let me know if you need his number). I think you're better off going that route than spending time trying to get it to work without a turbo at all. You can rebuild these turbos in an hour with simple hand tools (minus removal/reinstall time).

I was gonna gut it last minute if i had to. I have other rebuildable turbos at home I can rebuild if i cant buy a good used one for now. (I have one off a bigger ford truck, looks identical to the superduty exh housing and pedistal but the compressor housing is much larger, ill send pics in 2 weeks..sorry for the wait)
Anyway, I think I found a truck to borrow for this weekend and maybe to get my truck 150 miles north so I can let it sit at my shop for a while and let it think about what it did to me all by itself..with all the mustangs making fun of it for being a bad truck.
