Rear liftgate doesn't open?

Yup... My wife just came back from getting groceries and when she started to unload the stuff from the back, the liftgate would not open! WTF???

The glass opens and closes properly, but the whole door does not open. You can hear the lock mechanism working when you press the buttons on the remote, but when you pull from the handle, nothing happens. The pulling resistance on the handle feels pretty normal so I don't think anything is broken there in the mechanism. Maybe... Hopefully...

As if I didn't have enough to-do with the emergency brake already.

Any and all help is again greatly appreciated.

Are you turning the handle the correct way?

click the open/closed few times in a row. Maybe push in the rear hatch handle while someone else is doing the button pushes. When you get it open lubeup the latch really good. I don't know if thats the official fix but it worked for me

Thanks for the tips shov76. I'll have to try that and see what happens. I guess I'll have some time tomorrow since I finally got the emergency brake adjusted today so I have at least one item off my to-do list.

No go w/the clicking the locks open/closed repeatedly.

I guess I'll have to try to get the interior panel removed somehow so I could get my hands on the moving parts.

Any other suggestions?

I had the same problem on my 04 and it turned out to be a broken wire in the harness down by the drivers left foot under the carpet.

Damn! Then again, I can hear the locks working, so I'm suspecting something happened to the handle mechanism.

It's just too damn hot to go outside and work on it so have been putting it off, but soon the wife is really going to kill me unless I fix it...

Maybe crawl in back and try some pressure with your feet on the door while someone tries the locks and the handle. Or try alternating pushing on the door and letting off and try to jiggle the latch while someone is unlocking and pulling on the handle. You might be able to remove the door panel without having it open.

None of the wiggling and jiggling wouldn't have helped since the cable from the handle to the release lever is broken.

I finally bit the bullet and removed the two plastic screw thingies where the glass lock and wiper motor are, the pull handle from the middle and started pulling the panel off. That sum'bitch was tight as hell but I finally got it off and found out that the cable was broken from the pull handle's end.

So..., the the stealership I go on Monday, I guess...

$26.75 for the cable, ~5 minutes to install that and put the interior panel back and we're good to go again.
