If my toe looked like this, I'd soak it well in hot water with a lot of dissolved salt, dry it, and pack Neosporin or any triple-antibiotic into that corner, then wrap it with gauze or a large Band-Aid. Not tightly.
I'd also stop trimming my nails so closely.
I didn't see any major redness indicating rampant infection, but if redness occurred, I'd consider it serious and get some antibiotics like cephalexin.

I also thought he trims his nails to close but that's how guys cut their nails. I like to leave something there to protect it to, that's what the nail does.
