stalling

I know this has been gone over many times so if there is a thread you can point me to or give suggestions I would appreciate it. Tonight I was backing into my inlaws drive way and the truck died like I shut it off. I had stopped on a hill and then backed up. I thought maybe the oil level was low so when I stopped and backed up the oil sloshed and the sensor thought low oil. Started up good. Then 15 minutes later driving slow in a parking lot getting ready to turn into a spot, it died agian. Coasted into the spot and it started fine agian. This was on fairly level ground and hadn't begun to really slow down to stop yet. 4 hours later drove home, about 8 miles and runs fine. I would like to get this fixed before our camping trip to Maine next weekend. Thanks.

Try the last link first. Also check the little flimsy nut on the IPR.

Thank you DRRXR, I am going to try a new cps. Had it on the interstate yesterday and could feel it cut in and out and stalled a couple of times when driving very slow. I also had the cel come one when I started it to leave a parking lot, so I need to get a scanner to read the code. The light did go back off after driving through the parking lot for a couple hundred yards.

Sounds like a CPS to me... I've put two in in the year that i've owned this truck. Also if your oil pressure is too low the truck will shut off.

But definately sounds like a bad CPS. Only $35 at the dealership, I'd just put a new one in and then you can keep the other as a spare. It's a good part to have on hand.

I tried a used cps and changed my oil, ran good for about 80 miles but right back at it, hicupping and stalling. I am getting a cel but i tried to get it read by 2 different people but they couldn't pull the code. Any idea why? I really need to know what the code is to know where to start.

Also I was going to get a cps through a local shop that gets them through an international dealer. The price they told me was $110 their cost, and the local ford dealer was $42. A little surprising, seems like everyone here says the international ones would be cheaper.

That IH price might be for the "old" black CPS. The CPS units are gray.

You might also want to replace the VSS in the rear diff. At the very least, pull it and wipe it off. DO NOT USE ANY CLEANER ON THE VSS. Sometimes the metal particle buildup on the VSS can interfere with the signal.

You might even want to replace the VSS and keep a spare on hand. They're about $25 at the dealer.

The weird thing is when it starts to run rough and stalling stumbling, the shifts seem to hit harder.

Where on the rear end is the vss?
