my first 6.0
I clean my EGR valve every 30k or so. I will continue to do so.
I use Stanadyne fuel additive EVERY tank. I also add 0.6 gallons of biodiesel to every tank. I get lubricity, cetane boost, and water removal improvement this way. It is working well for me.
I also think a synthetic 5W40 oil is a very wise choice (Rotella T, Mobil 1, Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme, Schaeffer, etc).
Get the longer 200k mile ESP if you think you will be keeping it for a long time, it will pay for itself most likely! All it takes is 1 turbo or 1 transmission etc..... and you have gotten your money back!!
Welcome to the forum. Lots of good info and help here. You can learn a lot. I know I have. Enjoy the truck....find something heavy and drag it around. That's what it does best.
I too have recently purchased a low millage '04 6.0L. Mine was 32K and it was a lease to the first owner. Great shape! Its a Harley -Davidson version. This truck was driven very little..............I have since come to see that low miles on these things are not good. My truck? It in the shop now. Thank god its under warr still (until Sept. 11th). Find out your In Service Date(ISD) and any reason you can find to take it in, I would get it in to the dealer an establish an account while within the ISD. Staying on top of the issues will keep you from, at worse case, breaking down on the highway.
Mine is running great! It is like a rocket, power power power..... Once the dealer worked on it. But, the main issue I took it to them for is still unresolved.
Make sure yours dont have the same sickness. Try taking a hot day, drive your truck slow, like you're in traffic, ~1200RPMs or so for some distance. Then pause, say at a stop sign and then go like your pulling out in fast traffic. See if it blows white smoke and chokes out on you. This problem, I am told by the dealer and some of these guys here, is due to "lot rot". Wish I could find out exactly whats doing it. Hope yours is not.
