Welcome to FTE and the world of 6.0 PSD. A 2004 with only 15K is almost unheard of, were you able to get an OASIS report and CarFax report to make sure everything is OK with the truck?
I think the 04' model had a known issue with the CAC hoses coming loose. Maybe this happened to your truck at one time or another and the oil was not cleaned up. You might want to clean up all of the overspray and tighten down the clamps for good measure. The oil comes from the CCV.
You'll find a ton of information in the Tech Folder.
Charge Air Cooler (intercooler) leaks oil or hose blows off, driver's side:
If excessive oil is leaking from the driver's side intercooler to pipe hose, replace the clamps with spring loaded ones which will better accommodate thermal expansion. If the driver's side hose has blown off, replace the tube assembly along with the clamps.

well had the choice of a 150 with a 5.4 for 25 k or this very clean f250 still has one year of the ford esp warranty i would be using it to pull my camper this was a single owner truck and i only paid 16k i thought it was a good deal compared to the 150 with the 5.4 with very bad fuel mileage

First of all don't stress man, just enjoy your truck it's got very low miles on it!!
I really would like to tell you that if you maintain your 6.0 like everyone says you should then you won't have many problems! I maintain the living crap out of my 04 6.0, fuel filters, oil changes, egr cleanings, new air filter every 30k miles etc and my repair list is ugly and long! I am stock too no programmers! I really am beginning to think it's the luck of the draw! Some people go miles and miles with no problems and some people have lots of problems. I have religiously changed my fuel filters every 12k miles and lost an injector at 65k miles. Now I am thinking I should just change the darn filter every 15k an save some money if it's going to break anyway! I have lost the turbo, trans, 5 egr's I think, maybe 6....... CPS, EBP.....
I also hear from lots of people say that the late 05-07's don't have the issues because Ford/Navistar took care of the issues........... Not what I have seen!! Nor what the ford tech ant my dealer says!! The tech at my dealer says all of the 6.0 engines are all prone to many of the same issues through out all of the years. Anyway I say that so you don't kick yourself thinking "I should have bought a newer model 6.0" Get the extended warranty if you can and enjoy it that's what I do!! Even with all of the problems I've had I still love my Excursion!! I got the warranty and just take it to the dealer when it breaks and get it fixed for the $100 dollar deductible.
One thing is sure - if you do not learn and practice the basic maintenance needs, you will have problems. As Scottman said, some have done so and still had problems. From what I read (and I read a lot), those folks are few. One key thing is to learn about your truck and how to troubleshoot issues. this site has a lot of information to help. The other thing is to find a good, and I mean REAL GOOS, dealership. One that will not be just a "parts changer" but one that follows the troubleshooting procedures in the manual. These trucs are complicated, but a good ASE mechanic will be a HUGE blessing to you should you ever need repairs.
Also - when was the 2004 truck first purchased? You may have warranty left. A dealership can pull you an OASIS report and it will be on that. If you have warranty left, you can buy an extended warranty if you are real concerned about reliability.
yea i guess your right i still have one year esp left,i love the truck i just get worryed about the cost and down time, how often do you clean the egr valve and do you use any fuel aditives
just pick up a 04 f250 with a 6.0 only 15k runs good i noticed that the cac hoses seemed to have alittle oil on them i was told this normal
What color are those cac hoses? There is a tsb on replacing those hoses and the clamps if they are the black ones.

The new cac hoses are blue with an orange liner. I replaced mine about 2 years ago. I did it myself instead of bringing the truck in. My dealership gave me all the parts free and asked me only to give them back the old pieces. Piece of cake only took me about 20 minutes to replace them.
