My door lock slips to lock every time I close the door. There's no way that its worn cuz it not that old. Is this adjustable? I' m having to reach in and lift the inside handle to open the door. bill
Mine does it so often I carry a door key on my everyday key ring. Just in case I lock myself out. I have an Altman latch kit to install [someday] so I have not attempted to adjust.
I'd bet the over center mousetrap spring that holds the locking lever on the latch in the locked or unlocked position is broken or damaged, the latch mechanism is very dirty, or the lock cylinder tang (if you have an outside keylock) is contacting the lock lever preventing it from fully unlocking. The latch is a simple mechanism and easy to remove from the door foe examination and cleaning/lubricating. Lubricate all pivots and contact points with lightweight grease like Lubriplate NOT WD40!
Ok, Out she comes. I'll pull the lock and see what's going on. I don't have a lock cylinder on the drivers side so I'll look for a bad or missing spring. thanks
If you look in my "making changes" gallery (click on my user name select view gallery) for a pic of one of my latches slightly modified for electric locks. The lock lever is the T shaped piece. You can see the mousetrap spring just above the lever. The lever should snap from locked to unlocked when the stem of the T is moved side to side.
