Erratic cruise control

What would cause my cruse control to only work intermittently? This is on a 1994 F150 auto 4X4. I have been having trouble with it for some time now. It occasionally will engage but then disengages shortly thereafter. Sometimes it stays engaged for an extended period of time and other times it disengages after 1 or 2 seconds. More often than not, it won't engage at all. Vacuum? Electrical? What would it be?

Sounds like the cruise is on its way out. I think mine did that before it went out completely, a new clockspring will probably fix.

Is there any way to test and determine if that is the cause? How difficult is it to replace the clockspring? The cruise seems to disengage when ever there is a "jolt" or bump in the road. Wierd!

Ford had our trucks under recall for the cruise control, mine did the samething and I took it in and they said it was under recall and wouldn't you know the letter was in my glove box. My brother-in-law happens to work at the dealership that's why I took it in.

I took mine in for the cruise recall as well, but I still have this particular problem. Was your's disengaging before the recall work was done and that fixed it?

I didn't get mine fixed yet, my B-I-L just put a wire harness on it to keep the fuse from blowing or getting hot(can't remember which) and catching on fire. But it was disengaging and then it qiut altogether, I just figured it was because of the recall problem they had. I'm sorry this didn't help at all.

Recall did it

Took mine in for the recall and for some reason it solved my erratic cruise control. Can only assume connector problem that was solved with the new pigtail Ford installed.
