I done searched the A/C forum and didn't find what I was looking for.
I have a 84 F250 and the air conditioner compressor does not cycle off in any mode, even "off". I disconnected the 2 wire connector and it still is engaged.
Does the switch engage or disengage the compressor?
My system is freezing up and I think its because the a/c clutch doesnt disengage and runs continues even in "off" on the heater/a/c controll.

 

the compressor clutch should be disengaged except when energized. it looks like you get to replace the clutch on the compressor, or the whole thing if you prefer.

 

Has someone been messing with it? There are shims inside that you can adjust the clutch gap. If the gap is too small, it won't quit driving. But you have to get a special tool to work on it and pull the clutch off. Most parts stores will rent the tool to you.

 

I pulled the clutch apart and it was just stuck/gummed up with metal shavings. no a lot just enough that it wouldn't stop turning . Once I got it apart and cleaned, I put it all back together and it worked the way it should.
