I did a 92, the only difference really is the grille area. I used the Dodge intercooler, so that was a concern. If it was a non-intercooled motor, then it is of no issue.
Interesting, so you used a NV4500 WITH a gear vendors overdrive? Wow, so the 4500 didn't have enough overdrive with the 4.10 ratio? I wouldn't worry about this in my case, because I have a 3.55.
I just saw an article on this, but it was a newer swap. I think it was in truck trend magazine or four wheeler. I know yours is an older swap, but I think you might be interested in the article, maybe get some ideas. They took a powerstroke diesel out of a F-350 and put a cummins. They even laid out what it cost to do the swap, of course that wouldn't apply to you.
I took out a 460 that had seen better days and put in the 460. I haven't run the NV4500 yet, but behind the 46RH automatic, the engine was spinning too fast. To run with traffic, it was spinning faster than it liked, and lost power on the hills. With the GV and the overdrive engaged, it would cruise easily down the highway at 70 with no real effort. I am wrapping up swapping to the NV4500. The truck was originally a 5 speed truck anyway, so it was a relatively easy swap back.
Love the Cummins engines. Highly recommend 4btswaps.com, there is no site like it on the net, the best archive of tech info and swap info you will ever find... Ever.
Check out Destroked.com. I prefer them over fordcummins.
Even with 3.55's you may find you'll want more gear, I am gathering the components and planning the swap in my '86, however I am still undecided yet on how I'll go about gaining higher gearing.
I picked up a deal on a 91 Dodge 2500, truck was wrecked, owner just had injectors replaced and injector pump rebuilt. Engine purrs like a kitten, I could resist for $1200 for the whole truck. I will pick it up this weekend

Do you really want to cruise the hiways and biways at 55-60 MPH!
Personally the gear vendors unit is not for me, I dislike the fact that it's after the transfer case in 4x4's., IMO a poor design.

Even at 2200rpm the early Cummins 6 cylinders will get decent mileage. I run alot higher rpm than that (2200rpm) at 75-80 mph in my 89' CTD and I get 19+ highway. 1800-2200 is the sweet spot. I would be more worried about the ride in one of these old lumber wagons at 75-80mph...
Please clarify higher gearing for me will ya? Not sure I get your point.

This is a heckuva deal IMO. The 91 model years had a mid to late year change for emissions, they added the intercooler, OD to the automatic transmissions and detuned the Injection system a bit. Is this truck you picked up intercooled or not?
The GV unit is standalone on the Dodge 2wd's. It came with the parts truck. While I understand the thing about putting the OD unit in front of the t-case, how often do you need OD in 4wd? The problem I see with US Gear being before the t-case is the fuel tank issue, as well as having to lengthen the front shaft, as well as shorten the rear...

...and moving the transfer case shift lever, and I guess the speedo cable is long enough?

Higher gearing = Taller gears.
Higher gearing = Less RPM at said MPH.
Higher gearing = More MPH at said RPM.
Higher gearing = 3.55 over the lower 4.10!
Higher gearing = OD over the lower DD.
