My swap is moving along. I'm about 70 percent finished. Fellro86, I have a question for you. This may be a basic question, but did you just get a shorter serpentine belt when you deleted your AC compressor, or did you also have to relocate the belt tensioner. I bought a non-AC length belt from the parts store, but it is a little too short for my setup with the tensioner in the original place. I don't think I'm routing the belt wrong. Any comments or help would be appreciated. I'll have to post some pics later.
I actually still have the pump there, but am trying to decide what is the best way to deal with it. I did rework the frame for it to fit, but my mounts settled and damaged the back of the pump. If I pull the motor, I will rework the mounts then, but for now, I have them spaced up enough to get by. The routing is considerably different between a/c and non a/c. Instead of coming from the fan under the water pump to the alternator, it goes straight to the alternator, then back to the water pump, around the tensioner, then down to the crank.
If the link works for you: Belt routing If not, look in the vehicle repair guide link right about the chosen vehicle on the website, and look in the routine maintenance section.
I finally got the beast on the road. Runs good, but still have to decide how to increase overdrive. I'll either get a 5-speed or gear vendor overdrive, but for now I put some 35in tires and it works OK with the 3.55 gears. Question I have is about the throttle cable for fellro86 or others who put a 6BT in a 80s Ford truck. I hooked the cable as shown in the pic. I need a longer cable and I can hook it up in the Dodge location. I put an extra ball connection as shown, but I don't like the throttle feel. What throttle cable did you use on your Ford truck swaps?
I used the Ford cable from the 460. I don't recall now how I made it work, if it was a straight hookup, or if I got a ball to make it work. I seem to remember having to do a little to make it work, but not too much. I'd show some pics, but they may have been lost on a computer crash...
