Wondering???

Two questions:

1. I need to re-install the aluminum body side moldings on my 64 F100 and dont have the clips. Lots of companies make the clips for 65-66 trucks, can I use these or will they not fit?

2. I got the new LMC catolog today and it shows a hood ornament P/N 42-3325, that mounts to the top of the hood, down the center. I have never seen one of these on any slick before and they list it for 61-66 models. Was this ever offered by Ford?

clips...if Im not mistaken Dearborn Classics in oregon sells the clips...65-6 clips will not work as the moldings are significantly wider then the 63-4 type...

Hood badge...all 61-6 trucks had one on the front center...all 6 cylinder trucks 61-6 had them. All 61-4 trucks used the same badge as the 6 cylinder...the gear and lightening bolt regardless of the engine.
The V8 badge is correct for 65 and 66 trucks only.

LMC is a supplier who sells many of the parts that Dennis Carpenter makes as they(DC) have the original molds from Ford and are authorized to make the parts. LMC as well as other suppliers get many of their stuff...like the hood badges from DC...

I think the hood ornament (not the badge) you're referring to is pictured in the Dennis Carpenter online catalog for 57-66 Ford pickups on a green & white 66 F100. I don't know if it's a factory item or not but the rest of the truck in the pic looks pretty stock. I tried to post the link to it but the site was moving way too slow to open it tonight. You should be able to pull it up yourself.

Im famiular with the badges on the front of the hood, but the one from LMC runs down the keel of the hood. I tried adding a photo, but dont know how to. Oh well

As far as the clips, I checked Dearborn, but they dont list truck parts. Were these clips used on another vehicle?

Go to your CP and load the photo in your garage album, then you can refer it.

the hood side badges indicate the truck series...250, 100, 350 etc...they were used on 62-4 on all of the trucks...they were used on the 65-6 trucks on the F350 and larger trucks. The chrome bezel itself has F O R D in large block letters at the top with the insert area below.
The 65-6 F100/250 trucks had fender nameplates indicating the truck series vs the hood side nameplate. These 2 are not interchangable due to the curvature of the hood vs the flatness of the fender side.
The molding clips were used on many different cars...

The part number is C3AZ6229120A or C4TZ9929120A

I went looking at Dearborn Classics after looking in the parts illus. manual...they do have the clips...

their part number is BMC63A The price is 2.95 each

The other molding clip which is used they also have as well...its the one used on the front of each door molding and the rear of the cowl molding and the front of the bed on the styleside 'wrong bed' style bed
The book shows each truck uses 6 per truck...4 on integral body trucks
Its Ford part number is C3AZ62290B82A,

their part number is BMC17

Their price is also 2.95 each

...its a square clip with large triangular portions in the middle of each side missing as original.

So thats the skinny on the 63-4 side molding clips...they can be bought brand new...

Was this ever offered by Ford? Yes, on the 1957 Ford.
B7A16850A .. Hood Ornament / Fits: 1957 Ford PASSENGER CARS.

Ford did not offer a hood ornament for any 1961/66 truck.

Someone discovered the '57 Ford hood ornament fits the hood, so some ppl think Ford offered it for these trucks.

On my truck, I have an original 1948/50 Packard Cormorant hood ornament on it, using the base from a 1951/52 Packard. This is a similar hood ornament to what you see on Big Rigs.

Did Ford offer this ornament for these trucks? No, and they didn't offer the one from a 1957 Ford passenger car, either.

Look in the text sections of the 1957/63 or 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalogs under 16850, which is the basic Ford part number for a hood ornament.

Look at the illustrations of the hood in these two parts catalogs.

How many hood ornaments do you see?

There are none, because Ford never offered a hood ornament for any truck until 1973.

I have the factory truck accessory brochures for 1965 and 1966. No hood ornaments of any kind are listed.

LMC catalog

The first #1 is B7A16850A for 1957 Ford passenger cars (Not Thunderbirds).

The second #1 is C2DZ16178A, which is the front fender ornament for 1962/63 Falcons.

Now look at LMC's catalogs that apply to these cars...the same ornaments are listed there.

I bought my 1965 F100 brand new in March 1965, at the dealer (Stockton Quincy Ford in WLA) I was working at as a Ford partsman.

If Ford had offered a hood ornament for these trucks, I would know about it.

like I said, there's a pic of it on the hood of the green & white 66 F100 on the front page of Dennis Carpenters 57-66 catalogue. Here's the link if you wanna see what it looks like but I don't know if it's allowed.... http://dennis-carpenter.com/pdf/57-66Truck2009.pdf

I don't like it either. The truck doesn't need it. But, to each his own.....
