I have a 1966 f100 twin I beam with a 352 v8 and my vin starts out like F10YL and it is my understanding that the first letter after the F10 is the engine code however mine is a Y which is not in the engine codes for a 1966 but is for a 1967. Am I missing something?
PawPaw, Ironically, I just decoded my entire VIN yesterday on a 1966 F100 with a 352cid. The F10 = F100 with 2-wheel drive. The Y = 352 cid 8-cylinder (I don't why some lists for '66 models don't include the Y). The next should be a letter, say like "N" and then a string of numbers. The letter is the code for the assembly plant. In my case, N is for Norfolk, VA. The string of numbers is the consecutive unit number. If you post a picture of the VIN tag, I'll decode the whole thing for you. Little O
Thanks O. I used the decoder on this site. I was just confused about the Y because from what I've seen the 66 did not use the Y as an engine code option but did in 67. By the way, my truck is a Michigan truck.
Well now I know why I've been scratching my head about the VIN on my truck. I have just recently got this truck from my grandpa to start restoring it and found that info on the engine codes and didn't understand why it wasn't a D. Learn something new everyday.
