300 I6 coming out!
I have a engine hoist and and stand at the ready, a friend with chains, and plan on doing this with in the next week.
Everthing is unbolted from the moter except the torque converter, which I will do.
While it is out I plan on giving it a fresh coat of paint, and cleanig up the engine bay. It is, or was attached to a C4, which is still in the truck.
My question is, where, or how should I hoist this out? I am planning on leaving the intake and exhaust manifold attached is my plan.
I gues to clarity my question, I am planning on throwing some chains around the motor mounts, but don't know who to get a hold of the motor towards the rear.
I added a few pictures for you to view. Any thoughts or imput would be greatly appriciated!

PS: I will take some pictures of the event for all to see!
This way, your weight will be balanced and you'll have a stable "tripod." You'll also have the trans out to detail and clean/ repaint along with the area under the truck!

Kinda vague. I'd call the local Ford dealer on this one.
See if you can get some tips from the fellows who have done it a few times.
I'm curious to know myself. Let us know, show photos!
Murph.
Find some 3/8 bolt holes on the head, roughly symetrically opposite each other on the sides of the head and attach your chain there. You should have to do some fine tuning on your bolt placement and where you hook your chainfall or cherry pickers hook to the lift chain to get the engine lifting straight up and out.
You can't use the intake, it's offset too far. That only works on V type motors.
What does the coil bolt to? That one may be high enough and it looks like there should be one on the intake side to balance it out with.
Is there a bolt in the back of the head, opposite the thermostat housing bolts?
On the drivers side it's a little more difficult to find a good hole towards the rear of the block to balance. I made a lift plate and bolted it to one of the rear lifter cover bolt holes but if you got too rough you might could break it off and be in trouble. It worked for me more than a few times but I can't recommend that it is 100% safe.
I wouldn't hesitate to use a lifting strap around the intake and exhaust manifold but then again you are a little off balance to the left.
I saw a manual one time that illustrated using two valve cover bolt holes on the passenger side.
These are tiny bolt sizes but I tried it. I used two good bolts with washers welded to the heads and it worked perfect with good balance but I was real nervous a lift bolt would break at the threads and drop the engine.
You could pull the carb and use one stud for one end of a chain, then on the other side use the coil mounting bolt hole. This would probably be the safest.
Be careful when setting these engines down and unhooking, they are very tall and can flip over in a heartbeat. A friend of mine was trying to unbolt a chain on the side of a six and it fell over and caught his arm and broke it in two places.
