Well as of today I am still working with my dealer and they are going to get Ford tech involved. They installed new fornt and rear springs on the left side, it was hanging down 3/4" on the left side. If they can't get it fixed I am going to start a complaint using the lemmon law.
I may be way far out there, but I just want to throw out my .02.
This is not a new problem, There have been 2 causes of shutter. 1 from the rear end, the cause is from the differential , and clutch paks in it, and the fluid not being slippery enough to allow them to slip, under heavy pulls, or while turning. Whne the rear end unlocks. There are additves used to correct this problem.
Have they addressed that ??
Second is torque converter shutter. I guess the new trannys do not have a port to add fluid?? But there is a product for that.
To me a vibration at a givin speed would be = to pinion angle issue's
Shutter at acceloration, or when turning, is symptomatic of my previous statements.
Ford has a service bulletin on this issue. I will try to get the bulliten # I thought it was 5501, but I will check
I will try to explain what is happening and what they have done. When taking off from a dead stop like a stop light it shutters about 50' longer if I am in the throttle. You put a 300 pound item in the box and it is a little worse (that is how they tested it after I had hooked up my boat and took it to the dealership). When I hook up my boat it will shutter or vibrate as long as I am in the throttle. I hook up my enclosed toy hauler it doesn't quit shuttering. It seems the more it has to pull the worse it gets. They installed a 1 degree shim and to me on a scale of 1 to 10 it went to a 3. They have tried a new driveshaft, checked the u-joints and the rest of the angles. I have taken a new truck and hooked it up and no shuttering.
That is what I thought you said, and described. My only point is, That is the classic problem, and as I previously stated The shutter...
The SuperDuty has been doing that since 03 I think??? Very common especially whe plowing, or towing. Mine never did it, because I asked the dealer when I bought it to add the rear end additive, that is reccomended in the service buletin, so I didnt have to come back.
Thats baffles me they are putting you threw all that. But as previously stated. I left a message at a friends house to call me. He is a tech and will give me the buletin # for you.
Does your truck have a two piece driveshaft? My 06 F350 CC had the same problem and they just shimmed down the carrier bearing problem solved. The angle between the two shafts is suppoed to be no more than three degrees. There was a tsb on this.
It is refferred to for 99 to 04 Super Duty, but then says this proceedure can be done on all 99 to present 150's-250's-350' and explorer's. With limited slip rear ends, commonly called open rear ends.
I just bought my '09 F-150 Platinum in June and I'm feeling this studdering or missing out feeling around 1500 - 1600 RPM's while accelerating slightly from this speed range. I pulled my boat today and felt the missing out feeling or studdering more drastic between 1500 - 2000 RPM. Is this the same thing going on that you are describing here? This is really anoying and I was afraid if I took it in for service they wouldn't be able to duplicate the issue or find anything on the computer.
I just paid a ton of money for my wife's F150 Lariat Limited in July and her truck is doing the EXACT same thing. I've taken it to the Ford joint twice and they keep telling me they don't see the issue. It is sad that I am starting to think about another brand of vehicle (I have driven Ford trucks my whole life) for my next purchase. Very dissappointed...to say the least.
Please let me know if you come up with solution or get any feedback from the dealer.
Ok here is what has happend as of 9-25-2009. On 9-22-09 I called the 800 number and told them what my problem is and what repairs have been done so far. The receptionist told me that someone would get back to me in 24 to 48 hours. 25 hours later I had a call from a service rep. and they told me that they have contacted the local dealer. I contacted the local dealers service manager and he told me that they have esculated my concern. I told the district service rep. that there are other trucks out there doing the same thing. They told that they are contacting the engineers and that I would be called back on 9-28-09.
I had to hook up my boat and take a service person from the dealership to show them the problem. You may have to either put a load in the box or pull something to show them. While it was in the shop they loaded some heavy items in the box to make it do it. I would then call the 800 number in your owners manual. After three atemps to fix it I think that they will buy you out of it. By the way my truck leans 3/4" to the left also. Hope this helps.

Yes it has a 2 piece driveshaft. I took a new supercrew short box home and hooked up my trailer and no shutter. Oh by the way no shutter on my 07 F150 with the 1 piece driveshaft.
My 2007 did this after about 20,000 miles and had the fluid changed. This truck shakes or shutters so bad that it feels like the driveshaft is ready to come thru the floor boards. I work in a truck shop and when we have this type problem the first thing we check is the ride height of the air ride suspension the next thing we do is check the driveline angles. I have had our service department check the driveline angles and they are in Fords spec but their spec has is not right. I beleive in the end they will reshim the hanger bearing and it will go away. The dealership cannot do it without the OK from Ford in order for them to get reimburst from Ford.
