I was driving up a pretty steep grade and when i got to the top. my truck started shifting up and when it hit final drive it sounded like a semi stoped and put on his air brakes on, and ever since every time i hit passing gear and it shifts into final drive, it dose,s that. anybody have a clue as to the cause, i don't other than that the truck runs fine.its a 2002-350-7.3 turbo i would appriciate any help. THANK YOU TERRY
Check your air filter box & make sure it's closed up correctly. If it's not, you're sucking dirty air and dusting your motor! If all is well, you could just be hearing the engine the way it's supposed to sound with a clean filter.
But do check it all the way to the turbo. Take the intake tubes off between the box & turbo and inspect. They've been known to crack too. If you're hearing it, something might've opened up on you...
I would have to wager that you lost a boot from the spider to the intercooler tube on one side or the other. In stock form, they collect a bunch of oil, and either slip off, or develop a crack which is only open when you get on it, hence the air hisss..... You can replace these boots with kits available from some of the sponsors on this site, for heavier duty boots than the stock ones.
