Bend in steering stabilizer

Hey Guy's: I finally took the time to install a new steering stabilizer. I found the old one to have a bend or dent in the housing. Appeared to be from contacting one of the spring shackles. My truck is a 2003 7.3 SD 4x4 Stock in every way. Is this a common problem?

Usually it's from contacting a rock or a parking lot bumper.

Spring shackles? That's quite a distance to bump.
