Question about Cam Synchronizer...

Im changing mine out, sync AND sensor. Whats the point of putting the #1 cylinder at TDC? Why can you just pull the sensor off... note where the little rotor is at, pull it, put the new rotor in the same place, stab it, and go on down the road??

Reason Im asking, is I cant find the markings to set the crankshaft pulley at TDC. And I dont have a compression test kit... and this task has thus far cost me $70 in parts and $200 in tools.

If you didnt want to set it at TDC, you would have to note exactly where the outer housing was, and the inner shaft. I pulled mine out without doing that, but using a volt meter, you can set it properly if you put your engine at tdc. The timing marks can be hard to read, but they are engraved so you should be able to find them. Here is the link to the how-to article, take your time and read it thoroughly, it can be a bit confusing at first. http://www.scribd.com/doc/6937530/Ford-Cam-Sensor-Tips
