ok i pulled out the motor in my f100 with 460 new gaskets and put in back in my problem is the distributor its a msd pro billet i put it in like the stock one tdc then the rotor tords #1 it pops out of the carb so i thought its 180 deg off when i did that nothing at all am i missing somthing ive never messed with msd stuff so kind of lost here
Just mark the damper @ 6* BTDC , take out #1 spark plug, turn the crank by hand while pushing your thumb on the spark plug hole, crank it until you feel it building pressure, keep turning crank until the timing mark lines up with the pointer. Then pop the dist. cap and make sure the rotor is pointing @ the #1 spark plug tower, reinstall cap, spark plug and wire. If you have a timing light hook it up to #1 spark plug and turn on the ignition but don't start it or even bump the starter. Now just turn the dist.until the timing light blinks and you'll be pretty close on the right timing. Now it should fire right up and you can set the timing.
When I was putting a new Disty in my 460 I changed over the wires one at a time (so I wouldn't get them in the wrong place!).
Somehow I screwed up and got all the wires one terminal off - it backfired out of the intake every time I cranked it. Might wanna double check that the #1 plug wire is going to the terminal where the "1" is marked
