A F260 is a 3/4 ton(F250) factory 4WD truck
The door tags decodes as follows:
F26: F250 4WD truck from factory
B: 300 6 cylinder engine
K: Kansas City assy. plant
817702: Feb 1966 build date
WB is 120...length in inches, color code would be a letter/s a blank color code means it was special ordered.
Model...explained above
Body D81: D: Med. Beige crush vinyl and med. beige cody pattern woven plastic
81 is a conventional cab truck
A: NP435 4 speed trans.
Axle 25K...25 is rear axle...4.56 Dana 60 open rear end, K is front axle: 4.55 ratio also..if you need parts for this you need to ID the particular axle model as there are a few different variations...metal tag should be bolted to front cover.
The 2WD truck...
F25: F series 3/4 ton 2WD truck
Y: 352 8 cylinder engine
R: San Jose assy. plant
886225: Early July 1966 build date
WB 129: longbed truck, wheelbase in inches
Color 8M ??? M is wimboldon white...theres no numbers in exterior paint codes...B is turquoise.
Model: F250...3/4 ton 2WD truck
Body 2D81: B1 is covered above...2D is interior trim code...there is no 2D...just D as noted above..
Trans: A...NP435 trans.
Axle 24: 4,10 open Dana 60
Again, for the 4WD front axle...post the tag info and help will come your way in finding parts :-)
Theres other differences, but these are the major ones..

The cab on the 4WD drive is beyond repair from Wisconsin. The 2WD drive is from Arizona and in almost perfect condition. I want to take the cab and front clip from the 2WD and put it on the 4WD frame.
I would also like to install power steering. How difficult is that procedure? It doesn't look easy. I also want to replace th I6 with a 390 FE, can that be accomplished without severe head aches?
The front axle ID Tag #s are as follows.
C6TA-AZ
2777-3 4.55 ratio
I am new to this forum and I can not say enough thanks.
Its interchange is 1961-4 All F100/F250 with body type 81(non integral body)
1961-66 F350--F600 (81)
1965 F100-F250 4WD (81)
1966 F250 4WD (81)
1961 F700 before s/n 170,001
You shouldnt have to much trouble finding one of those trucks...theres lots out there still...just gotta look...
I hope this helps, cs65
C6TA-AZ: Dana 44F-HD / 4.55-1 / non Limited Slip / 3500 lb. Front Axle Capacity.
Model Code F260 = F250 4WD / 6800 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.
There are specific Model Codes for F Series Trucks, it all depends on how they were originally equipped.
The Model Code not only defines 2WD or 4WD, but the GWVR as well.
Other 1966 F250 4WD examples: F261 = 4900 lbs. GVWR / F262 = 7700 lbs. GVWR
