66 Ranger Package
The BODY code is the only way to know...for certain...whether the truck was originally a Ranger...or not.
Someone could have swapped front fender Ranger emblems, or changed fenders, getting them from a Ranger.
All Rangers came with bucket seats, a center console, sweep speedometer instrument cluster, a vinyl cover that hid the fuel tank and carpeting.
The seats and vinyl upholstery are the same as 1965 or 1966 Mustangs.
The seat tracks are the same as 1965/70 Mustangs.
The console is the same as 1964/65 Falcon Sprints.
The rest of the tag decodes as follows:
F10: F100 series 2WD truck, 1/2 ton rating
A: 240 6 cylinder engine
R: San Jose, Ca. assembly plant
732,072: August 1965 build date...early August approxamately as the Aug. run begins with 732,001
129: wheelbase in inches...long bed truck
JM: exterior color: J = Rangoon Red and W is Wimboldon white.
V81...covered above..
G: transmission code...automatic 3 speed.
A8: rear axle ratio...3.54 locking Dana 44
Max GVW: 5000...trucks max capacity with cargo and people in pounds.
Cert. Net HP RPM: 129HP @ 4000RPM...engines HP rating at specified RPM
DSO: 89= Transportation Service...Im clueless about what this means...this is whats stated in the Ford Parts catalog...
Bill(NumberDummy) will chime in on that one Im pretty sure.
Regarding the seats...they were taken out probably by someone with a Mustang in need or want of them as they are identical...

Truck does not have the vinyl covering the gas tank, but I can see screw holes from the fasteners that held it there. Of course no carpet, no console. Box has the lower tool box compartment, was this a seperate option or part of Ranger package too. Transmission is still a cruisematic. Engine still 240 but was replaced with ford factory long block. Someone put a power brake boster in. Power steering has been added, looks like a 70 - 72 colum as it has the hazard switch on it.

As for the early 66 model...you are right...BUT just from the San Jose assembly line...there were other plants using the same NUMBERS, but the plant code would be different...so for example if theres 8 plants...there is/was a total of 8 trucks with that number...but the plant code would be different...
Either way, its a low production truck for certain...a keep if you as me...and thats the first truck Ive ever decoded with that DSO code...

1966 serial number range: 732,001 thru 914.000 which means that #732012 is one of the first 1966 trucks (includes all series: B/C/E/F/N/NT/P/T/TL/H/W/WT) to roll off the assembly line.
Since it was most likely the first Ranger assembled in San Jose, it was prolly driven by a Ford "Road Man" who visited all the dealers in the district promoting and demonstrating new products.
Parts of the Falcon Sprint console have been reproduced: Console: body, liner, padded vinyl lid (in three colors: Red, Black, Palomino), aluminum tray.
One of the sources who sells these parts is Dearborn Classics (dearbornclassics.com) located in Bend, Oregon. The console parts are shown on page 51 in their catalog.

Bill,
Thank goodness for you and your informational knowledge!

Otherwise, guys like Stuffengineer would not realize that this isn't just some truck - but a truck worth restoring!

Truck was first sold into Denver CO. From the US it moved to Northern Ontario Canada, and has changed hands 3 times before I got it.
Will let you know when I can get some pictures posted. Should try to keep a pictoral record on Flickr.
Any guess as to its value completed?
Is there any production numbers on Ranger packages.
I had contacted Ford but they could not tell me anything since it was built before 67. Does anyone know if you could search out information in the archives at the Henry Ford Museum?
Really appreciate everyones help with this. If anyone has a lead on the seat risers or a used console let me know.
I checked with Dearborn classics and they have a console rebuild kit which has the major pieces, but will still need hardware, hinges etc.

No individual production figures are available for Rangers, Camper Specials, Custom Cabs, Standard Cab, how many trucks came with 352's or I-6's, how many were short or long beds.
This is it: 224,497 1966 F100 2WD Styleside pickups were assembled.
btw: Ford "officially" can't tell you anything inre to 1967/79 trucks (or cars) either. Why?
Because, in the late 1980's, Ford was gonna toss all these old records in the TRASH!
A Mustang 'nut' in Phoenix AZ found out about this, acquired it all. So when Ford gets an inquiry, they have to get the info from him.
martiauto.com is the source. Individuals can order a build sheet for their vehicles from Marti...and there is a charge for this service.
This is known in the hobby as a Marti Report.
