I'm looking at buying a low mileage 7.3l 99 F350 dually. The carfax says it was built in March of 98. I'm looking for any advice on things I need to be aware of with early 99 production models, both drivetrain and chassis. Eventually I will be towing a fifth-wheel camper with this (assuming I buy it), so please give me any info you might have.
One issue I recall when I had my 99' F-350, was the slip-yoke on the drive shaft, there was no grease fitting and it would make a bump or pop like noise when it finally slipped,,this was common on the first SuperDuty's,,,pull the shaft and grease the spline good(marking it too replace the same way it came apart),,,the earlier SuperDuty's also had some Brake issue ,in that the rotors would warp a bit,,cutting them only made them warp more,,,There was a couple companys that made a better rotor to cure the problem,,05' and up got bigger brakes.
You beat me to it M350. Front brake rotors on the early 99 models were prone to warpage because they were too small. But hopefully by now they've been upgraded. If you're going to be towing heavy and it has an auto, I'd seriously consider upgrading the tranny cooler and upgrade the torque converter if not already done.
Thanks guys. So, could I potentially swap out the calipers and rotors with newer models? Is it simply remove and replace or is there more to it than that? Is there a sticky or thread somewhere that talks about this? I did some searching, but didn't find that.
