460 question

ive been planning to take a 460 out of a Grande Marquee and put it in my 74 f250 but as i was thumbing through the pages of a catalouge(however u spell it) looking at performance parts next to 460 it says truck. Is there something different between the 460 in trucks than cars or are they the same? thanks

Welcome to FTE.

on the 460 you would have to watch the years, mid year 79 and later would be externally balanced and were only used in trucks (no cars had 460s after 78). Easy to tell though, the block casting is D9TE, all the other block castings woudl be internal balance. this is important for your flexplate and flywheel choices.

otherwise oil pans are different usually, cars ran front sump pans. Most 4x4 trucks require rear sump, which means different oil pan, pickup and oil pump.

Other minor differences are the exhaust manifolds etc but otherwise the motor is the same.
